Being a caregiver for an individual with special needs is a full-time responsibility. At times, we know it can get overwhelming to balance your own needs while caring for your loved one. If you find you do not have enough time to properly care for your loved one, or worry about leaving them home alone during the day, a Phoenix adult day program may offer a solution.
Adult day programs are a resource for caregivers who want to make sure their loved one is properly taken care of when they can’t be around. Day programs provide a variety of activities to keep your loved one physically and mentally sharp while also learning essential skills. Your loved one will receive personalized care based on their specific needs. Most day program facilities are open Monday-Friday during normal business hours, and some even operate on the weekends. The goal is to provide the caregiver with some much-needed respite while taking care of the individual with special needs.
Adult day programs—also called adult day care—are services designed to look after adults with disabilities while their primary caregivers are away. These programs provide care, supervision, companionship, and activities for individuals with special needs. Adult day programs also seek to teach individuals critical life skills, such as independence and socialization. A Phoenix adult day program may be a good option for you if you feel overwhelmed with balancing your work and caring for your loved one.
Adult day programs provide your loved one with the exact care they need in a safe, fun community environment. During the day, we will help your loved one with a variety of essential tasks, including…
At On Angel’s Wings, our Phoenix adult day program offers a safe, clean, and fun environment for your loved one to spend the day with friends and enjoy a variety of activities. We focus on all aspects of daily living where growth and development is our goal. If you would like to see these activities, you are always welcome to visit our community center.
Our staffing ratio does not exceed 1 staff to 4 or 5 individuals. This helps ensure that each individual receives the best care and supervision possible. All staff members are background checked and trained in State of Arizona requirements. Our caregivers are trained to care for individuals with a variety of developmental, behavioral, and cognitive special needs. Rest assured that your loved one will be in good hands!
We provide a variety of fun and educational activities that occur on-site and in the community each day. These activities are designed with each individual’s needs, wants, and likes in mind. Some of our on-site activities include cooking classes, computer skills, gardening, exercise and tai chi classes, crafting, team games, and theme parties. Our annual Thanksgiving celebration is one of the highlights of each year. We love inviting family and friends to join us for dinner.
We also actively participate in the community through our ongoing relationship with the Special Olympics. We volunteer at food banks, attend concerts, go to art festivals, visit the zoo, tour museums, and go bowling, just to name a few activities. On occasion, we also take trips outside of the Greater Phoenix area to play in the snow, swim at the lake, and visit state attractions. Our transportation radius is 15 miles (Cave Creek, Anthem, Scottsdale, North Phoenix, North Glendale).
Being a caregiver is a demanding (albeit rewarding) job. Many caregivers have to balance their own life and priorities with caring for their loved ones, which can be extremely challenging and fatiguing. If you struggle to find enough time to care for your loved one, go to work, and run errands—and also worry about leaving your loved one at home alone—a Phoenix adult day program may provide a solution. There are many benefits of adult day program services that can help both you and your loved one enjoy stress-free days.
We know how fatiguing it is to juggle your own priorities while also caring for your loved one. Adult day programs offer full-time care during the week for your loved one. You’ll be able to go to work, run errands, or handle other household chores without worrying about your loved one. Our staff members are highly trained to work with individuals of varying ability levels, so you can rest assured your loved one is getting exactly the care they need.
Individuals with special needs can sometimes feel lonely and isolated, especially if their time is primarily spent with a single caregiver. A Phoenix adult day program allows your loved one the opportunity to socialize with other individuals and participate in a variety of activities. For example, they can take part in social activities like card games, sports, crafts, and other leisure activities. Day programs are a great way for your loved one to stay socially and physically active instead of sitting at home in front of the television.
At On Angel’s Wings, our Phoenix adult day programs are designed to teach your loved one critical skills. Such skills help your loved one grow as an individual and achieve a more independent life. Your loved one will be able to make friends and create relationships with people outside of their normal community. This will give them a sense of personal growth and independence. You as a caregiver may also feel more independent because you will have more time to accomplish tasks without being overwhelmed with providing care.
We understand that being a caregiver is a full-time responsibility. It is not uncommon for caregivers to get overwhelmed and feel stressed and fatigued. Adult day programs offer you some free time to get caught up on housework and errands. Or better yet, you can even take the opportunity to relax and rejuvenate. That way, you’ll feel refreshed and alert when your loved one is back in your care.
Physical activity is just as important as mental stimulation. It is no surprise that getting exercise is essential for one’s health and wellness. Phoenix adult day programs offer daily activities so your loved one can stay in shape and get the physical activity they need to stay healthy. Physical activity also allows your loved one more opportunities to socialize and make friends. At On Angel’s Wings, we play sports together, go bowling, and play outdoor games. There is always something fun to do!
We understand that it can be difficult to hand caregiver responsibilities over when you’ve looked after your loved one for so long. However, seeking support and taking care of your own health is important for your well-being as a caregiver. It is never selfish to use the services of an adult day program to give you some time to recharge. Remember: if you are overwhelmed with your responsibilities, your patience and compassion may run thin, making it difficult to provide the care your loved one needs. Taking a break is a great way to get the rest you need. Plus, day programs will be great fun for your loved one who will get to make friends and foster a new sense of independence.
