Typically, most group homes in Phoenix house up to six residents. However, it is more common for there to be only 3 residents at a time, plus a fully trained caregiver (or several), in the home. For example, the group homes provided by On Angel’s Wings typically have 2 caregivers in a household of 3 – 4 members. There is always a trained caregiver present, even during nighttime hours.

Are group homes safe?

Yes, group homes in Phoenix provide a safe environment for individuals with disabilities. Each of our group homes is staffed with a professional caregiver who is there 24 hours a day to assist residents.

Our caregivers follow the proper protocols for medical emergencies, criminal activity, and even natural disasters. Each resident gets the support they need to minimize their risk of harm due to cognitive or behavioral challenges they (or another resident) exhibit.

What makes a good group home?

As you begin searching for group homes, it’s important to do your research on the options you have available. After all, you want to make sure your loved one will be in a clean, safe environment with caregivers who are compassionate and respectful. Here are some of the qualities of a great group home in Phoenix.

  • Clean. First and foremost, the group home should be clean and welcoming. There should be reasonable landscaping on the property.
  • Accommodating. Group homes in Phoenix should have accessibility accommodations for the residents. These include wheelchair ramps, railings and handles, and shower or bathtub chairs.
  • Respectful Environment. Do the caregivers and residents respect each other? Are conflicts between residents resolved quickly? These are some things to consider as you look into group homes in Phoenix.
  • Trained Staff. This is one of the most important aspects of a safe group home. Make sure the caretakers are highly trained. They should be knowledgeable about their residents’ special needs and should know what to do in the event of an emergency. There should always be a caregiver present at all times of the day and night to provide support to residents.

Benefits of Group Homes in Phoenix

Group homes in Phoenix provide a unique opportunity for individuals with disabilities to learn skills, make connections, and live a mostly independent life. With the support of caregivers, individuals will learn valuable skills such as meal preparation, house cleaning, hygiene, and more.

24/7 Supervision

We understand how hectic it can be to manage your home and to-do list on top of caring for your loved one. Finding a balance between providing for your loved one while also giving them the space and privacy to grow independently is difficult. If you find you are struggling to manage everything on your own, it might be a good time to start looking into group homes. Our trained caregivers are always present inside the home to help residents with a variety of tasks. This includes giving them 24/7 support and supervision, as well as helping them with daily living tasks. You never have to worry about your loved one being left alone.

Socialization

In many cases, individuals with disabilities may feel isolated and alone in their current living conditions. But in a group home, these individuals will work together with other residents to perform daily tasks such as housekeeping, cooking, and more. This gives residents the chance to socialize, build connections and friendships, and learn new skills as they grow as individuals. Plus, they will develop great experience working together with others who may have different skill sets.

Independence

When living with family members, it can be easy to become dependent on our caretakers for daily support. However, living with roommates in a group home setting can encourage independence as your loved one learns to take care of tasks on their own. Not only does this independence grow confidence, but it can also inspire your loved one to find new ways to take care of themselves as they learn new skills. This sense of independence also extends to you as you begin to feel more comfortable that your loved one can take care of themself. You can rest assured that your loved one is getting the care and attention they need while you take care of your other priorities.

All the Comforts of Home

Living in a group home will help your loved one develop close relationships with the other members. This, in turn, will help your loved one feel that they are truly home with people they care about. We strive to make our group homes as comfortable, fun, and inviting as possible so that your loved one feels welcomed and loved in this new environment.
