Benefits of Living in a Group Home in Scottsdale AZ

Transitioning to a group home environment is a big decision. After all, it might be the first time your loved one has truly lived on their own. There are many benefits to living in a group home in Scottsdale AZ. Not only will your loved one receive individualized care and support, but they will also learn to become a more independent, self-sufficient adult. Here are the benefits of living in a group home environment.

Gaining Independence

It is every parent’s wish that their child grows up to be an independent, self-sufficient adult. And while that may be a little bit more challenging for individuals with special needs, it is still possible for individuals to become more independent. Living in a group home in Scottsdale AZ can help your loved one learn essential living skills, such as how to manage finances, regulate emotions, communicate with others, buy clothing, prepare meals, and get jobs.

Residents may have different levels of independence and require different amounts of personalized assistance. Regardless, the skills they learn at the group home will help them become more self-sufficient.

Constant Supervision

When living in a group home, your loved one will receive 24/7 support and assistance from trained caregivers. There is always a caregiver present in the home, even during nighttime hours. Caregivers can assist your loved one with the following tasks:

  • Dressing
  • Bathing
  • Preparing meals
  • Eating
  • Traveling to and from destinations
  • Taking medications

You can rest assured that your loved one will receive the support and assistance he or she needs. Your loved one will be encouraged to be independent but will have assistance whenever needed.

Social Interaction

It is not uncommon for individuals with disabilities to feel a sense of isolation from other people. Living in a group home in Scottsdale AZ will give your loved one the chance to live with other residents and receive beneficial social interactions.

Living with other residents will teach your loved one social skills, as well as how to work together with people who may have different skill sets. Additionally, group homes provide your loved one the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, including

  • Shopping
  • Playing games
  • Volunteering
  • Interacting with family members and friends
  • Hobbies
  • …and more!

Family Interactions

Family support is essential for your loved one’s well-being. Even though your child will be living away from home, families are encouraged to keep close connections with their loved ones. You can visit the group home, share meals, and even take part in your child’s ongoing medical care. In many cases, families often say they have grown closer after their loved one has entered a nurturing, safe living environment.

Safe Living Environment

Group homes provide a safe, loving, and respectful environment for your loved one to flourish. Residents receive personalized care based on their individual needs. All group homes in Scottsdale AZ are licensed and certified by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS). Additionally, caretakers are highly trained to take care of individuals with disabilities. Caretakers also follow procedures for medical emergencies, natural disasters, and other emergency situations that may occur.

Group homes regularly receive inspections for safety and compliance to make sure they are up to code. Rest assured that your loved one will be safe, nurtured, and respected at the group home.

Supervised Medical Treatment

Caretakers are trained to assist residents with medical treatments. For example, caretakers can help residents with…

  • Attending doctor appointments
  • Taking medications
  • Around-the-clock nursing care
  • Transportation to and from appointments

If your loved one needs to see a doctor, therapist, or another healthcare provider on a regular basis, caretakers can make sure their needs are met. We will make sure your loved one is following his or her medical routine thoroughly and consistently.
