Qualities of a Great Attendant Care Provider

There are many factors to consider when choosing a provider for attendant care in Arizona. First, you must be sure that your chosen caregiver is trained and qualified to perform all of the necessary work. Equally as important, however, is that you and your loved one feel completely at ease with your caregiver. The attendant care worker should be compassionate, trustworthy, and completely reliable.

Your chosen caregiver should…

  • Be knowledgeable about your loved one’s special needs
  • Be physically capable of completing household tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and more
  • Communicate with you and your loved one often and be honest in all communications
  • Understand and respond to your loved one’s psychological, social, and physical needs
  • Know how to respond to difficult or challenging behavior or situations
  • Know what to do and who to contact in an emergency
  • Correctly follow all policies and procedures outlined in their training
  • Arrive on time as per the schedule
  • Respect you and your loved one’s privacy
  • Be able to calmly and quickly resolve conflict
  • Avoid overstepping personal boundaries

Can Family Members Provide Attendant Care in Arizona?

Yes! You may select a family member or friend to provide attendant care services for your loved one. However, your chosen provider will have to be trained before they can begin assisting your loved one. We will train your chosen provider to make sure they understand the extent of attendant care in Arizona and can provide the proper care.

If you decide to involve a family member in attendant care in Arizona, be sure that they either have some experience assisting your loved one or are fully committed to learning about everything that will need to be done. This will ensure that your loved one will receive exactly the support they need.

It is not uncommon for family members or friends to be chosen as attendant care providers. Families that have close relationships may trust their relatives to provide quality care. Sometimes, relatives may already have previous experience caring for the individual or are at least familiar with some of the individual’s needs. Additionally, the individual with special needs may sometimes feel more comfortable receiving care from a relative instead of a stranger.

Whatever your reason is for selecting a family member or friend for attendant care in Arizona, we can help make sure they are properly trained so you can be at ease that your loved one is receiving the support they need.

How to Involve Family Members in Attendant Care

Involving your family members in attendant care services is a big decision. Here are some ways you can make sure your chosen provider is completely ready and informed.

Select Your Caregiver and Set Expectations

Make sure your caregiver is completely on-board with provident these attendant care services. Once they have agreed to help, have in-depth discussions about exactly what tasks they will be helping with. Be sure they fully understand your loved one’s special needs and what to do in emergency situations. This is also a good time to find out if there is anything your chosen caregiver is physically unable to do.

Keep Open Lines of Communication

Make it a point to communicate often with your caregiver. Talk about any concerns you have, as well as any problems that may have developed. You and your caregiver should be open and transparent with one another. Check in with your provider on a weekly (or even daily) basis. That way, you can both stay informed and be at ease that your loved one is being properly cared for. And remember: it always helps to show your appreciation and give constructive suggestions where necessary.

Create a Schedule and Have a Backup Plan

Before your caregiver begins their services, create a schedule to outline the days you need them present. You can also use this schedule to list the tasks they will need to complete on particular days (such as grocery shopping on Saturdays, taking out the trash, etc.). You should also have a backup plan in case your chosen caregiver cannot help on a particular day. Make sure there is always someone to provide support to your loved one.

Be Open-Minded

As you may know, things in life don’t always go the way we planned. If for some reason your chosen family member is unable or unwilling to provide caregiving services, be open-minded about selecting a new individual. You may have to ask other family members for their help, and you may find that no one else can provide the services you require. If that’s the case, keep an open mind about considering caregivers outside of your own family or inner circle. Rest assured that there are plenty of qualified and experienced attendant care workers who would be happy to help you and your loved one.
